Climate scientist Prof. Hansen from Hamburg-Blankenese is feeling desperate: even though he’s been involved in all the UN climate conferences so far, the climate has passed some tipping points and dramatic climate change is just around the corner. Only geoengineering—radical interventions in nature to alter its processes in order to stop or mitigate negative effects—which is actually globally ostracized, still has the potential to influence climate change. However, previous attempts have always been nipped in the bud.
After Hansen loses his beloved wife and receives an invitation to speak at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, he decides to take action. He wants to convince the world that geoengineering is THE last attempt to save the global climate, even if it represents a dangerous intervention.
He sees the WEF as the right stage for his project. His plan: to launch geoengineering initiatives globally in such a way that a positive effect on the climate can be demonstrated to the public, while at the same time presenting the initiatives in such a way that they receive full support from the population.
To this end, he and a team of experts take the elite at the WEF hostage. Actions at sea and in the air are launched and presented as a concerted action by the elite using deepfake videos. The deepfake videos generate the necessary global attention and steer public opinion in the desired direction. The actions can no longer be stopped.
Among the hostages is a Swiss policewoman who, despite technical isolation, manages to contact her boss and coordinate the hostages’ rescue. Due to the VIP status of the hostages, intervention had been ruled out until then. Swiss special forces finally storm the conference hotel in a dramatic showdown and free all the hostages.
In the final scene in Blankenese, the circle closes and the policewoman reflects once again on the perpetrators’ motives and the impact on the global climate.
