Tommy Brandl

Tommy B. Brandl, born in Osnabrück in 1994, is a communications specialist and certified psychological counsellor with more than 10 years’ experience in marketing and communications. He has been working full-time in the book trade since 2025. His debut novel, *Runaways*, a historical novel, was published in 2024. Following his poetry collection „7 – Sieben Gefühlein Siebzig Gedichten“ (7 – Seven Emotions in Seventy Poems), „DIE LETZTE HOFFNUNG“ (THE LAST HOPE) will be published in the summer of 2026 as the first instalment of his climate thriller trilogy.

Tommy is the founder of ‘Self-Publisher Speed Dating’, a Germany-wide initiative that brings together independent authors and owner-run bookshops, and is thus championing a diverse and bold book market.

I’m involved with Climate Fiction Writers Europe e.V. because I’m convinced that, together, we can build a future worth living in on a healthy planet – we just need to start talking again about what that should look like. If even one of my pieces can help spark a conversation on this, I’ll have achieved a great deal.

Feelings are strange.
Sometimes they’re warm and cosy, like a campfire on the beach.
Sometimes they hurt, quite a lot, like when you bang your head on the sharp edge of a cupboard.
And sometimes, sometimes you just want them to go away.
They don’t.
But you can write them down, share them, feel them together. Then they’re not nearly as scary.
And sometimes that’s actually quite lovely.

Die letzte Hoffnung (The Last Hope)

How much is the truth worth if only a lie can save life on Earth?

2046: Droughts. Fires. Floods. Climate change has long since come to define everyday life, and humanity is in agreement: someone else really ought to do something about it, perhaps. A shrug. Oh well, what a shame.

When a catastrophic flood finally renders the Pacific islands uninhabitable and claims thousands of lives, UN climate policy maker Chloe Cortez devises a desperate plan to finally force humanity to act. A plan that promises hope, but crosses every moral boundary.

At the same time, a drug deal goes wrong in Los Angeles. Failed actor Jack Simmons is sentenced to a life behind bars. Or so he thinks. For Jack doesn’t know that his future has long been intertwined with Chloe’s, and that a devious plot will soon place the fate of the world in his hands.

Isolated from society, her father keeps her imprisoned at home for reasons he can never reveal to her. Until one day Julie runs away, setting off a race through Victorian London. A race in which nothing less than her freedom is at stake.
