With their last ounce of strength, Lucie and her friends reach the city of survivors. Whilst Jem fights off attacking animals at the gates, Lucie hopes to finally find answers inside. But in the shadow of the towers, the Middle Ages seem to have been revived: Science is regarded as black magic, and asking questions is strictly forbidden. When the teenagers discover from forbidden books that they are not the first time-travellers, the lord of the castle’s wrath is unleashed. The friends have no choice but to flee. Their destination: the only place that still offers hope – the Oasis of the Time-Jumpers. But the path there leads through dangerous swamps, right into the land of the Squids.
